Animals of the Roborumb SystemCROOT UniverseCROOT.Universe

Animals are rare in the Roborumb system. The only exceptions are Toorik, the robot spider built by CROOT, and Koptya, the robot beetle… also built by CROOT.

To bring animals to Roborumb, explorers had to gather them from different star worlds and create a separate planet for them—OREYA. Here are some of the animals they managed to find.

Hornosaur

Hornosaur

Hornosaur is a graceful, long-legged creature that resembles an Earth horse, except that it has a horn on its forehead and wings.

Its long tail streams behind it like a waterfall. The wings are easy to miss at first—they are thin, almost transparent, with delicate patterns. The horn is sharp and long, and despite their beauty, hornosaurs can be dangerous: they fiercely protect themselves and their young.

Baby hornosaurs are adorable: small, round and unsteady on their legs, they love tumbling in the grass and playfully butting heads. Their little horns are short and blunt, so it tickles rather than hurts. Their short, fluffy tails point in every direction, and their wings resemble butterfly wings. They cannot fly yet; the wings simply help keep them upright as they learn to walk and stumble about. As they grow, their bodies become taller and more slender, their wings larger and stronger, their horns sharp and long, and their tails broad enough to wrap around themselves while they sleep.

Fluffelephant

Fluffelephant

Fluffelephant is a sweet, furry creature that looks like a small elephant with a short trunk and long, soft hair. Its head and body are almost spherical, and its legs are so short that they are barely visible beneath the thick, fluffy coat.

Fluffelephants live on a low-gravity planet, where they can push off the ground and float through the air like soap bubbles.

Friendly by nature, they often gather in groups for cheerful games among the clouds. They roll over one another, bump gently side to side and form whole whirlwinds of fluffy bodies.

Sometimes fluffelephants sing soft, melodic songs that echo across the sky and attract the attention of other inhabitants of the planet.

Crestlizard

Crestlizard

Crestlizard is a large animal resembling a giant lizard, with a crest along its back, enormous ears and a pom-pom at the tip of its tail.

Its body is covered in colourful scales. The tall ridge running down its back serves not only as decoration but also as a signalling device: when the animal is excited, the crest flashes in brilliant colours. Its ears can detect the faintest sounds, allowing it to sense danger before an enemy comes close and escape in time.

Its tail is long, flexible and unusually beautiful, ending in a distinctive pom-pom. It looks soft and fluffy, but hides sharp, venomous spikes inside.

Crestlizards usually graze peacefully in meadows, feeding on lush grasses and berries. When threatened, however, they become extremely dangerous and defend themselves and their young with their venomous spikes.

Tenleg

Tenleg

Tenleg is a small creature resembling an octopus, but it lives on land among dense alien jungles rather than in water.

Its body is surrounded by ten flat tentacles in many shades of green, from mint to deep emerald. This colouring makes Tenlegs excellent at hiding in the jungle: they raise their tentacles and pretend to be tall blades of grass swaying in the wind. Every tentacle is covered in tiny, gleaming scales that sparkle in the local sunlight like dew on grass.

Tenlegs move smoothly and almost silently. Sometimes, however, a thin whistle can be heard among the jungle grasses—the sound of Tenlegs warning one another of danger or simply exchanging news. Some researchers even claim that they can repeat simple melodies by imitating forest birds.

Phoenixoid

Phoenixoid

Phoenixoid is a mysterious creature shrouded in legend. It resembles a large, graceful cat with fiery red fur. Its long, flexible body seems made for lightning-fast leaps and agile hunting, while its expressive amber eyes reflect the flame burning within.

A phoenixoid’s most remarkable ability is to burst into flames. When excited or defending itself, its fur ignites in a brilliant fire that does not harm the creature but burns anyone who comes too close.

Despite this danger, phoenixoids are not naturally aggressive. They are cautious and prefer to avoid attention so that no one is hurt.

Phoenixoids live at the foot of volcanoes, where they can roam freely among hot rocks and streams of lava. On some nights, a fiery shadow can be seen flashing through the darkness—a phoenixoid hunting or playing with its companions and lighting the way with the gentle glow of its flames.

Chak-Yak

Chak-Yak

Chak-Yak is an extraordinary hoofed animal resembling a yak. Its long, flowing coat shimmers in every pastel shade, from pale blue and mint to lavender and pink; some individuals are even lemon yellow or peach. When a herd of Chak-Yaks crosses the plain, it looks as though a wave of dawn is rolling over the grass.

A Chak-Yak has six powerful legs, allowing it to reach astonishing speeds and weave effortlessly between boulders and bushes.

Despite their impressive size, Chak-Yaks are friendly and never aggressive. They live in large, peaceful herds where caring for the young is everyone’s responsibility. Watching Chak-Yaks of many delicate colours graze in sunlit meadows is a delight for any explorer of alien wildlife.

Keen-Ear

Keen-Ear

Keen-Ear is a harmless animal that looks like a cross between a lizard and a mammal, with strong legs, a long tail and enormous ears.

Its large, expressive eyes keep a close watch on everything around it. Powerful paws allow the Keen-Ear to travel easily across varied terrain, while its long, flexible tail helps it balance even on the steepest slopes.

Its most remarkable feature is its enormous ears, which can turn in different directions and detect the faintest rustle. Adult Keen-Ears can sense barely perceptible vibrations in the ground and air—and even signals from neighbouring planets.

Keen-Ears live in secluded places among dense forests and on hillsides, building nests lined with soft grasses and moss. They love listening to the whisper of the wind, birdsong and the crackle of a fire, enjoying every moment in harmony with nature.

Snakeroid

Snakeroid

Snakeroid is a mysterious creature from the depths of space: a long mechanical snake whose body is made of strong, flexible segments. With the slightest movement, it produces a distinctive metallic clatter, as though warning others of its strength and the danger it poses. It is one of the most dangerous and unpredictable creatures in the vastness of space.

A Snakeroid’s nature depends on the conditions in which it grows up. If a young Snakeroid is born into a harsh environment, abandoned by its family and forgotten by everyone, it becomes truly formidable. Its body produces an extremely powerful venom capable of paralysing even the toughest space creatures.

But when a Snakeroid is surrounded by warmth and care, and knows affection and love, its heart softens and its body produces no venom at all. It becomes a kind, loyal companion, ready to protect those who love it.
